Welcome to the Reggio-Inspired Network of Minnesota, a broad gathering of educators and citizens from Minnesota and nearby regions, who work in a variety of schools and civic organizations around issues of education and democracy. Inspired by the innovative preschools and infant-toddler centers in Reggio Emilia, Italy, Network participants look closely at the Reggio approach as well as examine and discuss our local experiences. Here you will find information, inspiration and resources.

The Environment as the Third Teacher

Intentional Spaces that Evolve with Children

December 3, 2025

6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Central Time

How can a classroom become more than just a backdrop for learning? How can an environment truly act as a “third teacher,” and what does that look like in practice?  Vicky de la Garza, Lower School Atelierista at the Advent School in Boston, will share the story of her Atelier and how intentional design choices shape a space that sparks curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. Participants will explore how materials, documentation, and flexible arrangements work together to support emergent projects and make children’s ideas visible, while also considering how these Reggio-inspired practices and ideas can be applied to any learning setting. Let’s explore how our environments can grow and transform with children’s questions and interests, becoming living spaces that reflect their voices, ideas, and discoveries.

Presenter: Vicky de la Garza,  Atelierista at The Advent School, a Reggio Emilia–inspired school in Boston.
